The Great Mall of the Bay Area is a large outlet shopping mall in Milpitas, California built by Ivanhoe Cambridge in 1994, then acquired by Mills Corporation in 2003, and is now owned by the Simon Property Group since April 2007.The Great Mall of the Bay Area, which opened on September 22, 1994, was developed as a joint venture between Ford Motor Land Development Corporation and Petrie Dierman Kughn.

Location : Great Mall is located at the Intersection of Montague Expressway, Great Mall Parkway and Main Street in Milpitas, California. Located between Highways 680 and 880, Great Mall is a 10-minute drive from San Jose International Airport and 50 miles away from downtown San Francisco.

The Great Mall is opening at midnight after Thanksgiving to get a jump start on Black Friday and discount coupons, refreshments and holiday entertainment will be available. Hilltop and Stoneridge will open at 5 a.m., with JCPenney opening at 4 a.m. on Black Friday. From there on out, stores will open and close .closer to normal hours and then extend hours later and earlier as Christmas draws near .

The mall had only one store open this year, Work World, a retailer of work clothing, but there is currently only one vacant space. Some of the more distinctive stores include Red Monkey Company.Southland's Mervyns store will stay open through the holidays, although the parent company has declared bankruptcy and the mall is in negotiations to lease the space to another retailer.
